The Importance of Senior Wellness Testing by Jessica

There’s no mistake, when you walk into our clinic you will see that it is Seniors Months during October and November here at West Hill Animal Clinic.

We take great pride in providing your pet with exceptional care and quality service. When is your pet considered a senior you wonder? Typically we say for medium to large breed dogs anywhere from 5-7 years old and for small breeds we say about 10. For cats we say anywhere from 7-9 years old.

We recommend bringing your senior pet twice a year, as your pet ages it’s important to keep on top of their health. Animals are so good at hiding their illness and or pain until sometimes it’s too late. It’s also good for you to know that in 6 months your pet ages roughly 3 ½ years!

Most of the time you won’t be able to see clinical signs so having a wellness exam is very important to detect early stages of disease. Catching diseases early such as diabetes for instance can greatly improve overall health and longevity of your pet.

Your veterinarian will do a complete physical exam followed by diagnostic testing which may include bloodwork, urinalysis and checking the stool for any parasites.

Here at West Hill Animal Clinic we have special “Senior Pet Care Packages” available to you during the months of October and November. If you have any questions about what we offer please give us a call and we would be more than happy to help you and your pet.
