Breed of the Month: Siberian Forest Cat
The Siberian Forest Cat is the National Cat of Russia as has been in existence for over 1000 years. Siberian Forest Cats are native to the forests of Siberia with a subarctic climate – this would explain the water repellent triple coat that they have.
Breed of the Month: Exotic Shorthair
The Exotic Shorthair was created in the 1950’s by crossbreeding Persians, American Shorthairs, Burmese and Russian Blues. Exotics have been nicknamed “The lazy man’s Persian” because they resemble a Persian, but their coat is shorter and easier to care for.
Breed of the Month: Maine Coon
The Maine Coon cat breed dates as far back as the 19th century and is native to Maine, USA. Maine Coons were primarly used as “mousers” on farms and ships, but are now mainly bred for companionship.
Breed of the Month: Sphynx Cat
Contrary to popular belief, Sphynx cats did not originate in Egypt. In 1966, in Toronto, Ontario, a domestic short haired cat named Elizabeth gave birth to a hairless cat that was named “Prune”.
